The Process

The process of firing handmade pottery in a wood burning kiln is at times considered to be an arduous pursuit.  However, the results are found to be by many very satisfying and rewarding.  Using wood as a fuel produces an atmosphere at the high stoneware temperature that encourages the melting of the ash from the burning wood producing the unique surface.  Below are photos of the process; i.e. the empty kiln, the beginning of the loading pieces in the ware chamber, the bricked up doorway, and the firing of the kiln up to approximately 2300 degrees.  Please contact me if you have any questions or would like further information.
