The process of firing handmade pottery in a wood burning kiln is at times considered to be an arduous pursuit. However, the results are found to be by many very satisfying and rewarding. Using wood as a fuel produces an atmosphere at the high stoneware temperature that encourages the melting of the ash from the burning wood producing the unique surface. Below are photos of the process; i.e. the empty kiln, the beginning of the loading pieces in the ware chamber, the bricked up doorway, and the firing of the kiln up to approximately 2300 degrees.
